Attractions
Located in the Ardfert Village in the County Kerry, Ardfert Cathedral is one of the famous tourist attractions that have been built on the site of a monastery during the 6th century. The monastery which was founded by St. Brendan comprises of three medieval church ruins – the earliest of which ages back to 12th to 15th centuries, a number of early Christian and medieval grave slabs and an Ogham stone. These cathedrals are fine examples of Romanesque style of architecture. On your visit to the site, you can find restaurant and car parking facilities.
Killarney National Park:
Killarney National Park is the first national park that has been established in the year 1932. At present it is Ireland’s largest national park set in 25,000 acres of mountain, garden, woodland, and moorland. The park is of ecological value and consists of the only native of the Red Deer. It has also been regarded as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in the year 1981. You can go for a jaunting cart and enjoy a pleasant drive through the fields and woods at this lovely picturesque site.
Charles Fort:
Set at a short distance in West Cork, the Charles Fort is built in 1670s on the site of an early Norman fortification. This fort stands as an example of a star shaped fort, consisting of five bastions. It is believed that the architect of the Royal Hospital, William Robinson has designed this fort and it has also been designated as a National Monument in the year 1973. The fort is absolutely a great place for the lovers of the old fortifications.
